Each year, Beef + Lamb New Zealand selects a team of chefs who have displayed exceptional culinary skills during the Beef and Lamb Excellence Awards. These chefs become Beef + Lamb New Zealand Ambassadors for the year driving innovation and creativity within the food service sector using New Zealand beef and lamb.

Modern European cooking with a strong emphasis on classical French cooking is at the heart of our food but prepared in a contemporary New Zealand style enhanced by the abundance of fresh local produce. All dishes are cooked to order and we make many of the items such as bread, ice cream, pickles and chutney ourselves. Head chef Digraj Baghela Singh champions the use of fresh seasonal produce from local suppliers so that guests can expect exciting flavours showcasing the best of New Zealand’s diverse range of superb foods. We are privileged too in having our very own local celebrity chef Charles Royal to supply us with many native herbs and vegetables and to consult on the true indigenous methods of preparing and incorporating these special products into many of our menu items.


If you can draw yourself away from your luxurious room and comfortable bed then you can enjoy a hearty New Zealand Breakfast to get the day off to a dreamy start. Alternatively we do a delicious continental breakfast as well as breakfast classics such as eggs benedict or NZ smoked salmon and eggs.
Our breakfast is served from the early hours (7:00am) so if you have a busy day of meetings or activities planned this will get you off to a great start. You can seize this early opportunity to fuel up on breakfast if you have a conference held in the hotel because it would just be criminal to work on an empty stomach.

Our menus are seasonally inspired and feature the best of locally sourced ingredients and they change regularly to make use of the best quality produce available. Choices offered comprise of both light and more substantial options and we are happy to satisfy your personal preferences.

For those more informal and relaxed occasions you have the choice of many… snuggle up in our lavish cosy lounge, go alfresco on our street-side veranda or in our inner courtyard, relax in the Dukes Bar; all of which offer a homely and welcoming spot to while away the day peacefully with a book or chatting away with friends and family. Why not order a bite to eat from our informal dining menu – choose from salads and sandwiches, pasta or steak, and simply sit back and relax. There’ll always be a cosy chair ready and waiting for you, why not treat yourself to a chilled tipple too?

Sunday lunch is a great family tradition throughout the year and is a great opportunity for family and friends to get together and enjoy a relaxed and special time together.

The Dukes Restaurant is our fine dining restaurant offering both bold and delicate flavours in dishes crafted from the locally sourced ingredients inspired by the seasons and created by our award-winning chefs. The menus feature the very best of what is considered to be the hallmarks of New Zealand foods including fish and seafood, game, lamb, beef and poultry, indigenous vegetables and herbs, and an endless array of seasonal fruits, vegetables and salad greens.

The Dukes Restaurant is situated in the heart of the original main house at Prince’s Gate and has all the grace and charm of a bygone era with a stylish and luxurious feel.

Here at The Prince’s Gate Hotel, we are committed to ensuring that we maintain a sustainable approach to our food. Our main suppliers are all based in the local region but for some specialist items we obtain them from many different parts of New Zealand but in all cases we work with them to ensure that their produce is of the highest quality. As our food is freshly prepared, we are able to offer dishes that can be adapted for special diets. So, please let us know if you have any dietary requests.
